Steam Deck console gets 40Hz refresh rate, improving frame rate stability and battery life

Valve is releasing Steam Deck updates at a frantic pace, upgrading the device almost weekly, especially for SteamOS 3.0 beta users.
While there have been some issues with these updates over the past few weeks, the addition of the lock screen and half shadows have already proven to be valuable updates highly regarded by the community. On a related note, perhaps the biggest Steam Deck update was released relatively recently.
Users have discovered that the latest beta firmware already features a screen refresh rate change slider that can be adjusted even better than initially expected and allows players to limit games to 40 FPS rather than choosing between 30 and 60.It has long been known that Valve is working on official support for alternate refresh rates on Steam Deck, rather than limiting the device to the standard 60 Hz refresh rate.
However, since there was no other information other than that it would appear, most users didn't expect it to happen so soon.
By simply upgrading to the beta version of the Deck firmware, users can access screen settings exactly to their liking.Steam Deck is not only easier to achieve 40 FPS in games than 60 FPS, but also greatly increases the battery life of the device.
The previous Steam Deck update also improved battery life, and in most situations, these improvements fit well together.
At the same time, 40 FPS feels much smoother than 30 FPS, as it's an effective 33% increase in frame rate.Valve has already talked about its future plans for Steam Deck, so it's clear that the company intends to maintain the rapid pace of the firmware update for some time to come.
Of course, it's worth noting that the customizable screen refresh rate is still in beta on Steam Deck, and there's currently no timeline as to when the feature might be taken out of beta, which suggests possible bugs and issues in its current state.
