Embracer buys Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix Montréal as well as the Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief and Legacy of Kain franchises

Wake up, stretch out and smile at another monster deal in the gaming industry.
Embracer Group has reached an agreement to buy Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix Montréal, as well as several Square Enix franchises, including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief and Legacy of Kain.The total is $300 million.
Among other things, it includes more than 50 games from Square Enix's back catalog.
About 1,100 employees from eight locations worldwide will come under Embracer's wing.Square Enix America and Europe CEO Phil Rogers:This deal fits perfectly with our ambition of making high-quality games with great people and developing our franchises to their best versions.
Embracer allows us to forge new partnerships across all forms of media to maximize the potential of our franchises and fulfill our dreams of creating extraordinary entertainment.The full list of series that will end up in Embracer's possession is unknown.
However, it is definitely not Just Cause, Outriders and Life is Strange - they will continue to be published by Square Enix.The deal will be closed from July to September 2022.
