Metroid Dread appears to have become the best-selling game in the history of the series

Metroid Dread may have become the best-selling Metroid game in history, surpassing 2002's Metroid Prime for the GameCube.Nintendo reported Tuesday that the critically acclaimed Nintendo Switch, released in 2021, had sold 2.9 million copies as of March 2022.
copies, probably making it the best-selling game in the decades-long series. While public sales figures for the entire Metroid series are hard to come by (after all, it's 35 years old), no Metroid game has ever sold more than 3 million copies.
In 2007, Retro Studios stated that Prime 1 sold over 2 million copies. The Metroid series has historically sold poorly compared to Nintendo's own other franchises, but Dread has been supported by a strong marketing campaign, including notable TV ads.
And the game reportedly got off to a good start in several markets after its October release.According to GfK, Dread had the biggest sales in the series' history in the U.K.
While boxed copies fell slightly short of the biggest launch in franchise history (by less than 1,000 copies), digital sales, which don't count, likely far exceeded the previous record.Dread sold three and a half times as many copies at launch as the last 2D Metroid: Metroid: Samus Returns game, which came to 3DS in 2017.In Japan, Dread posted strong first week sales and oversold nearly every other part of the game in the region in a few days.
