Metal Gear Solid has a very close connection to PlayStation, but most games in the main series are not exclusives after all: they dropped by on both PC and Xbox. The notable exception is one - MGS4: Guns of the Patriots, which was only released on PlayStation 3 and has not even received a re-release on the new generations. There is a popular version that this happened because of an exclusivity deal with Sony, but fresh information states - there was no such deal, from a legal standpoint, Guns of the Patriots nothing prevented the release on Xbox 360.That's according to Ryan Payton - he served as assistant producer in the production of MGS4.Payton shared his memories as part of The Ultimate History of Video Games, Volume 2 by Steven L.Kent.To quote an excerpt:The prevailing belief in the industry was that Sony had probably made an exclusivity deal with [Metal Gear Solid 4].It didn't.If Kojima had wanted to port the game to the Xbox 360, his bosses probably would have approved it, but he wasn't willing to do that.Guns of the Patriots was limited by media: the PS3 had Blu-ray discs with about 50 gigabytes of data, while the Xbox 360 read two-layer DVDs at most (about 7 gigabytes). In addition, MGS4 required a partial installation on a hard drive, and the Xbox 360 had models without a drive at all. That the archives MGS4 too puffy for Microsoft's console, said himself Hideo Kojima (Hideo Kojima).Apparently, this is the key reason why the game didn't come out on the Xbox 360 - without any intrigue in the form of lifetime deals with Sony. But then why did Guns of the Patriots remain a PS3 exclusive and not appear on new generations of devices or PC? There's no definitive answer here. The owners of the series from Konami seem to be about to breathe another life into Metal Gear Solid and are preparing a remake of Snake Eater.Maybe about MGS4 will be remembered!
