
Wolfenstein 3D debuted exactly 30 years ago as the forerunner of 3D first-person shooters.Exactly 30 years ago, on May 5, 1992, Wolfenstein 3D debuted on the market.The project, created by id Software, went down in history forever, spawning a wave of 3D first-person shooters.Wolfenstein 3D was the third installment in the series (after Castle Wolfenstein and Beyond Castle Wolfenstein).Players took control of a Polish-born American soldier, B.J.Blazkowicz.Both the story and gameplay involved fighting waves of Nazis and trying to escape from a Nazi fortress.The game has a total of 60 levels, 4 types of weapons and 5 types of enemies (plus bosses).Wolfenstein 3D was initially released only on MS-DOS, but over time it came to other platforms: Macintosh, Acorn Achimedes, 3DO, Atari Jaguar, GameBoy Advance, Nintendo SNES, Apple IIGS, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and iPhone.In 2012 - to celebrate its 20th anniversary - Bethesda also released a free browser version of the game.
